Wuhan University collaborates with OPPO Lighting to launch the SDL light color emotion map globally, leading the standardization of color lighting

Recently, Wuhan University teamed up with OPPO Lighting to launch the SDL light color emotion map globally, scientifically revealing for the first time the impact of light color on human positive emotions. The relevant achievements have been recognized by international academic authorities, providing authoritative references for the design of healthy lighting environments and the standardization of light colors. From Brightness to Healing: SDL Light's First Landing in the Sky Realm "Youth Edition"

 With the rapid development of smart homes, commercial spaces, and health lighting, the value of light is shifting from basic lighting to emotional and health lighting. However, for a long time, the industry has lacked systematic research on the relationship between colored light and emotions. Wuhan University's X Oupuzhao Bright Light Quality and Color Vision Joint Laboratory has jointly launched a study on the mechanism of the impact of color lighting on emotions, revealing the connection between light color and emotions in a scientific way.

 The research results have been first applied to the "Youth Edition" lighting solution released by OPPO this year. Through the SDL (Software Defined Lighting) intelligent spectral super light engine, adjustable "light mode" can be achieved, allowing family spaces to present different emotional atmospheres according to scene changes, such as the "Romantic French Meal Mode" and "Joyful Singing K Mode", allowing emotional lighting to enter thousands of households in a scientific way.

25 types of light colors x 170 participants: quantifying the relationship between light colors and emotions

 The research team conducted a systematic study on 25 different light colors and 170 subjects through four rounds of experiments. The results showed that the hue, saturation, and color temperature of different lights can cause different emotions in people: low saturation light brings relaxation and relief, medium saturation warm light brings joy and excitement, while high saturation light is prone to tension. The experiment also found that music and family scenes can further enhance the emotional effects of light.

 Based on these results, the two parties jointly drew the world's first SDL pale light emotion map, moving emotional lighting from subjective perception to a quantifiable and reproducible scientific era. It is worth mentioning that both parties have also innovatively created five traditional Chinese SDL light colors, which not only carry unique emotional experiences, but also reflect the brand's profound understanding of the relationship between light and life.

SDL Light Color: Make Emotions Sensible, Controllable, and Customizable

 Based on scientific research achievements, OPPO Lighting is continuously expanding the application scenarios of SDL pale light. At present, in addition to the field of home lighting, SDL Light has landed at the Wuhan Ciming Aoya Health Management Center, creating a relaxed and pleasant lighting environment for health and wellness spaces through precise control of light color and color temperature, and helping with physical and mental healing.  Based on the standardization requirements of light color applications and the support of international authoritative research papers, the "Light Color Application Technology Standards" approved by the Chinese Lighting Society, led by Wuhan University, and co authored by OPPO Lighting has been officially approved, which will promote the standardization and sustainable development of emotional lighting.

 Professor Liu Qiang, head of the Quality and Color Vision Joint Laboratory of X Oupuzhao Mingguang at Wuhan University, pointed out: "Not all light colors can bring positive emotions. The key is to find a scientific balance between chromaticity and saturation. Through standardized research, we hope to establish industry consensus and enable future light colors to truly serve people's physical and mental health.

From scientific research to application, OPPO creates a benchmark for industry university research innovation

 Since the strategic cooperation was launched in 2023, OPPO and Wuhan University have jointly established the "Light Quality and Color Vision Joint Laboratory" to conduct continuous research on spectra, emotions, and health. They have also jointly released the "Comprehensive Evaluation Method for White Light Source Color Development Quality" to promote the implementation of clear light full spectrum technology and build a full chain system from scientific research to product innovation and standard setting, setting a new benchmark for industry university research collaborative innovation in the lighting industry.
