二.General points of design

1.Color temperature selection

Color temperature selection should be based on spatial functionality and personal preferences. The following are common reference ranges:

3000K-3500K: Warm white light, suitable for spaces such as bedrooms and restaurants that require a warm atmosphere.

3500K-4000K: Neutral light, suitable for daily activity spaces such as living rooms.

Above 4000K: Cold white light, suitable for areas requiring high alertness such as kitchen countertops and study areas.

It is recommended to control the color temperature difference within 300K in the same open space to avoid visual fragmentation. This suggestion is a common practice in lighting design, not a mandatory standard.

2.beam angle

The choice of beam angle mainly depends on the lighting purpose, and the following are common scene references:

15 °: Suitable for lighting in extremely small areas such as hanging paintings and display cabinets.

24 ° -36 °: Suitable for wall washing, painting, and local key lighting.

24 ° is suitable for decorative paintings or ornaments,        36 ° can cover dining tables or coffee table areas.

Around 45 °: suitable for corridors and hallways.

60 ° and above: Suitable for large-area basic lighting, such as overall ambient lighting in living rooms.

The smaller the beam angle, the more concentrated the light spot but the narrower the coverage area, which needs to be comprehensively judged based on the specific spatial scale.

3.Lighting reference

The following values are common design experience values, and actual lighting needs to be adjusted comprehensively based on the floor height, luminous flux, beam angle, and spatial reflection conditions:

The distance between the spotlight and the wall is generally recommended to be 20-30cm. If the distance is too close, it may cause the wall to be partially too bright, while if it is too far away, the wall cleaning effect will not be obvious. The recommended distance between embedded and installed spotlights and the wall is 20-40cm, with a wall cleaning effect of around 25-30cm.

The spacing between lamps in the same row can be estimated as "lamp spacing ≈ installation height × spacing coefficient". For wide beam angle tube lamps that provide basic lighting, the spacing coefficient can be taken as 1-1.2. For example, when the floor height is 2.7m and the installation height is 2.5m, the lamp spacing is about 2.5-3m. If more uniform illumination or narrow beam lamps are needed, the spacing should be correspondingly reduced.

Number of spotlights: It is not recommended to use a single simplified formula. It is recommended to plan the lamp positions based on the total required luminous flux, single lamp luminous flux, and beam angle distribution of the space. Luminaires with different luminous efficiencies have significant differences in luminous flux at the same power, and the number of required luminaires in the same space will also vary significantly. You can refer to the simulation results of professional lighting design software.

4.Ceiling requirements

The minimum ceiling depth for embedded lighting fixtures should be determined based on the actual size of the fixtures, and it is generally recommended to reserve ≥ 12cm (including gypsum board thickness). It is recommended to confirm the physical dimensions of the lighting fixtures before the water and electricity enter the site, and synchronize them with the ceiling plan for verification.

三.Frequently Asked Questions

Budget: The non main light system involves multiple aspects such as lighting system, track, power supply, intelligent control, etc., and the total cost is usually higher than that of a single main light scheme. It is recommended to make sufficient budget planning in the early stage.

Brightness: The lighting power requirements for the living room and kitchen vary depending on the spatial function. It is recommended to use luminous flux (lm) as the core reference rather than simply looking at power (W).

Switch layout: Multiple light positions require advance planning of multi-channel sub control or intelligent control systems to avoid affecting the user experience due to inconvenient control in the later stage.

Floor height limit: When the floor height is less than 2.6m, it may be more suitable to install track lights or partially hang them on the edge instead of fully hanging and embedding them.

Brand series differences: The same brand is usually divided into different product series, and the parameter standards for home series and engineering series may be different. It is recommended to refer to the official parameter page of the specific model when making a purchase.

Procurement channels: There may be differences in product lines and prices between different channels (official online, authorized distributors, engineering wholesale). It is recommended to verify product specifications and warranty policies through official channels.
