2002  U.S.-China trade deficit set a record

  This year, Chinese were allowed to apply for passports freely.Also in this year, the U.S. trade deficit with China hit the highest ever record, reaching 103.12 billion U.S. dollars, accounting for 23.7% of its total trade deficit.

 

2003 SARS

   At the beginning of 2003, the SARS epidemic suddenly intensified in Shenzhen, Guangzhou and other areas, and it expanded to Beijing in March.    In terms of foreign trade, in 2003, China's monthly import and export growth rate reached over 27%, the highest monthly import growth rate reached 63.4%, and the highest monthly export growth rate reached 50.7%.According to WTO statistics, in 2003, China's world rankings of imports and exports rose from the fifth place in the previous year to the fourth place, further consolidating its status as a major trading country
